Trench Warfare
World War One was a tough primitive time of war - basic one to one fighting with no nuclear weapons but there were some bombs during the war. Trench warfare was used to shelter the soldiers from gun fires, explosions and by limiting the number of gases getting into the trenches.

Firstly World War One is very muddy,  and because of that the soldiers got a very gross infection called trench foot, and some of the worst cases ended up having to be amputated. But some people just had a little infection. Some of the trenches had wood at the bottom to prevent trench foot.

In the trenches, all sorts of things lived in the trenches including a big rat called a trench rat. Trench rats are extremely big and they fed on mostly meat but in the trenches, they would eat the leftover food out of the tins. Some soldiers said that they could hear the tins rattling at night also some rats would eat the dead people's eyes and eat away at the people's feet if they had trench foot.

In conclusion, the trenches were not a nice place to be, a lot of people died in the war and it is important that we respect the people that served for our country in the war.
