What does well being look like to me

What does wellbeing look like to me

With what has been happening in this country in 2020 the word well being has been thrown around and talked about by the media and politicians. Wellbeing is a word we hear often but what does it mean and what does it look like. My name is Tamzyn and I am going to tell you what wellbeing is and what it looks like to me.

The oxford dictionary definition of wellbeing is “the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy” but when I look up the word wellbeing on google wellbeing has so many different meanings it appears to be broken down into mental well being, physical wellbeing, social wellbeing, and spiritual wellbeing. So I am going to explore these areas concerning my wellbeing.

Mental wellbeing seems to have been talked about most in the media this year as experts such as neuroscience and educator Nathan Wallis fears about the ongoing mental well-being effects of 2020. After researching and looking at these articles mental wellbeing for me is being able to accept that I have lots of different emotions in every situation and being able to recognize that emotion and act appropriately such as if I am frustrated then it is ok to cry but it is not ok to punch someone in the face. Mental wellbeing will always be changing as our environment changes but knowing I am supported and loved makes my mental wellbeing healthy.

Physical wellbeing has changed in 2020 as people were not able to leave their houses to access doctors, gyms, parks, pools, and outdoor activities. My physical wellbeing was impacted this year as I was unable to go riding out on my horse. I have never really thought about wellbeing before but this was a huge impact on my normal life. Since lockdown is over I appreciate being able to ride my horse out in the bush and being able to do things in the community such as going to the pools. The foods we eat also impact on our wellbeing. If I eat junk food such as KFC, lollies, and fizzy drinks then my body is not getting the nutrients I need to function properly so I get headaches and tired. However, most of the time I am lucky and have homegrown vegetables and meat from the farm so can have a balanced diet and this makes me feel better.

Social wellbeing being is very important. if you don't have good Social wellbeing you will not be able to connect to other people and if you can't connect to people you won't have a lot of friends because you don't socially connect to them.

What I have realized is that all the areas of my well-being need to be good for me to feel happy healthy and to have good wellbeing. My name is Tamzyn and thank you for listening
